Established in 1995, the BCA department emerged as a pioneering force in computer education within the region. With a vision to nurture young minds and empower them with cutting-edge knowledge in computer applications, the department laid the foundation for excellence in technology-driven education. During its formative years, the curriculum focused on fundamental concepts of computer science, programming languages, and software development methodologies.
Started in 1995 with one batch of 60 students in government aided stream, department added its second batch with 60 students in the self-financing stream in 2021.
The Bachelor of Computer Applications (Honours) Program of Marian College Kuttikkanam Autonomous has been developed in accordance with the Model Curriculum for the Undergraduate Programme in Bachelor of Computer Applications issued by AICTE in September 2024. The curriculum is designed based on the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework, ensuring that students achieve clearly defined learning outcomes through structured coursework, hands-on laboratory sessions, industry-relevant projects, internships, and research opportunities. The programme offers four specialization streams: Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Full Stack Development, and Cyber Security, enabling students to acquire advanced knowledge and skills in emerging areas of computing and information technology. The College has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with ICT Academy and IPSR to facilitate industry-oriented training, skill development, certification programmes, and collaborative academic initiatives for students.
As the demand for skilled IT professionals surged, the BCA department expanded its offerings to meet the industry’s requirements. Introducing specialized courses in areas such as database management, web development, and networking, the department ensured that students received comprehensive training aligned with industry trends. Practical sessions, projects, and industry interactions became integral components of the curriculum, providing students with real-world exposure and enhancing their employability.
In 2020, the BCA department embarked on a landmark collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions. This strategic partnership aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, fostering synergies for mutual growth and development. Under the collaboration, TCS provided expertise, resources, and industry insights to enhance the department’s academic offerings and research initiatives.
