Inaugurated in 2003 by the UGC chairman Prof YashPal, the Department offers the Govt- aided post graduate program – Master of Arts (Hospitality and Tourism Management) – MHTM, educating students who are keen to pursue a joyful career in Management in the service sector particularly Hospitality, Tourism, Travel, Airline, Entertainment, Events and other service industries.
The department offers top-notch business management education which recognises unique potential of each learner tomould emotionally intelligent and passionate leaders for the service sector industries. The department was conferred the award for best hospitality and tourism management programme in Kerala by tourism industry organisation ‘Kerala HATS’
The department offers the postgraduate programme in hospitality tourism management as Master of Arts (Hospitality and Tourism Management) – MHTM from 2023-24 academic year onwards.
Master of Arts (Hospitality and Tourism Management) – MHTM, (Formerly known as MMH) is a four semester business management programme. The innovative curriculum prepares the students to take up managerial positions in hospitality and tourism industries.
The highlight of the programme is industry internships every semester, adding up to a total of 5 months by the end of the programme. Industry engagement is woven into the curriculum helping learners to come face-to-face with successful entrepreneurs, top executives and seasoned alumni. To add, the MHTM program allows flexible specialization opportunities in different service sector avenues.

The MHTM programme envisages a student-centred learning and teaching approach, where the central focus is on learning. Instead of merely transferring knowledge, a teaching process that facilitates learning in an experiential way is emphasised.

Eligibility :Candidates seeking admission to the MHTM programme through Credit and Semester System shall be required to have a minimum pass mark or equivalent grade in any undergraduate programme of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam or of any recognized University or authority accepted by the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam as equivalent thereto. Procedure : Selection of the students is made on the basis of merit list prepared and published.The merit mark will be the cumulative score of entrance examinations (like MAT or the test conducted by the College) and Personal Interview.The total marks shall be calculated out of 100.
