The School of Commerce and Professional Studies (SCAPS) embarked on its maiden voyage on 11th August 1995 with one resolute teaching enthusiast and 52 aspiring students. Today, Commerce is the largest department in the college with 690 plus students pursuing B Com, M Com, and Ph.D.

SCAPS offers students a unique opportunity to pursue professional qualifications such as ACCA (UK), CIMA (UK), CA (Ind), CPA (US), CMA (Ind), and CMA (US) in direct collaboration with their respective professional bodies.

In a short period of time, the Department of Commerce has become one of the best commerce departments in Kerala, India, catering to even international students pursuing professional qualifications together with B Com/M Com. 

The School of Commerce and Professional Studies (SCAPS), since its inception, focuses on building a strong foundation in theory and practice to make each student well fit for employment and higher studies. Compulsory internships and a host of zero credit and value-added courses enrich and complement the B Com Programme. Active involvement of students in the various Additional Training Programs (ATPs) helps students to build an attractive profile that would significantly enhance their chances of placements. A designated course coordinator guides and mentors students who have chosen additional training for these professional courses. Situated in a picturesque hill station, Marian provides an ideal learning environment for the students.

Marian is one of the top colleges in Kerala for placements. Our students are placed at reputed companies, making the college a favorite of top recruiters. Marian also gets internships and placements from top auditing firms like Deloitte, EY, Grant Thornton, KMPG, and other companies like TCS, Godrej, Federal Bank, South Indian Bank, Salesken, Sutherland, HSKA, Byjus, Accenture and Cognizant. Marian has successfully tied up with the following Institutes to provide world-class education to her students:

• IMA (US) – Marian has direct tie-ups with IMA (US) which have facilitated the college to conduct CMA(US) program from the Marian campus itself, besides their world-class academic and research support.

• The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) – Marian is accredited by ICAI to provide coaching for CA students. 
• The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) – Besides accreditation, Marian is also an approved institution for ICAI’s Recognized Oral Coaching Centre (ROCC).
• Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA, UK) – Marian has a direct tie-up with ACCA and also has a 6-paper exemption from ACCA, putting the students on a fast track basis to pursue their dream careers. 
• Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA, UK) – Marian has signed an MOU with CIMA to provide the latest CGMA Finance Leadership Program (CGMA FLP) on her campus, allowing students to pursue a competitive and lucrative career path.
• Tally Solutions Pvt Ltd, Bangalore –  Marian is also having an MOU with Tally Solutions Pvt Ltd, Bangalore for providing training in the Tally ERP accounting package.

As of now, Marian is the only college in Kerala that can claim all these credentials.
