Overview

The Post Graduate Department of Computer Applications of Marian was established in October 2001 with a Master of Computer Applications programme. The six semester programme is affiliated to MG University and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).  

Originally, the AICTE sanctioned an initial intake of 30 students which was Increased to 60 in 2002. The classes for the first batch started on 17h October 2001. The department holds the honour of being the first fully certified department in India, with all the students certified with either Microsoft or RedHat certifications. The Department started a long term training programme for the students named ‘Destiny by Design’ in March 2002 for the 2001-04 Batch. The 2002-05 Batch of MCA started the Marian IT Mission programme, with the objective of a 100% e-literate Peermade Panchayath. Former MLA, Mr. E. M Augusthy, inaugurated the programme on 24th July 2004. Dr Ignatius Kunjumon was appointed as the first Director of this programme. Dr. Mendus Jacob, the present Director joined the department in June 2002.

The department is unique for:

• International tie-ups and academic alliances with industry giants -Microsoft RedHat, IBM and Sun Microsystems.
• International Vendor Cerlfications: each student can chose from among at least five International Certifications during the course.
• Annual industry visits and surveys to keep students synchronized with the dynamic IT scenario.
• The  industry-academia “Interface” programme bridging the gap between the industry and academia by facilitating periodical discussions with the cream of the industry.
• An active placement cell for 100% job placement.
