The School of Commerce and Professional Studies (scaps) started her voyage on 11 August 1995 with one teacher and 52 students. At present the department offers B Com, M Com, and PhD and has about 570 students. Consistent with the Marian vision, the Department of Commerce is pursuing excellence in education by providing a strong foundation in theory and practice to make each student well fit for employment and higher studies.
The School of Commerce and Professional Studies (scaps) embarked on her maiden voyage on 11th August, 1995 with one resolute teaching enthusiast and 52 aspiring students.
Students of the B.Com department, have grabbed various prizes at Inter-Collegiate and University levels. The training provided in the college helps them to compete in the current environment with utmost confidence.
The Programme aims to make the students employable and self employment oriented (Self employable). It aims to make the students learn the writing and interpretation of books of accounts, be conversant with the financial and economic environment and acquire the management skills required to manage the business. The programme includes imparting and developing the oral and written communication, Information Technology and statistical skills as well as legal knowledge.
Highly trained and abled faculty has always been the strength and pillar of the B.Com department. The Faculty at Marian College actively engage in teaching, research and industrial consultancy. Having made significant research contributions to various fields, they tirelessly endeavour to assist students of the Institute in their various pursuits of excellence.
The B.Com programme envisages a student-centred learning and teaching approach, where the central focus is on learning. Instead of merely transferring knowledge, a teaching process that facilitates learning in an experiential way is emphasised. Self-directed and continuous learning skills are also stressed. It is expected that the students be empowered to use their autonomy as learners to gain and practise specific knowledge and skills.
The syllabus of the B Com programme is internationally accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), UK and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as equivalent to their B Com Business Process Services.
Admission for Additional Training Programme - Professional Orientation
The Additional Training Programme - Professional Orientation are designed in such a way to equip the students to confidently pursue professional accounting qualifications such as ACCA(UK)/CA (IND)/CMA(IND)/CMA(US). Additional Trainings are given by sourcing professionally qualified visiting faculty from outside to provide the professional level orientation and expertise to such students who wish to develop a professional level knowledge and skill.
Besides, the commerce department offers Certification programmes on IFRS, Financial Modelling, Block Chain, Supply Chain Management etc are provided in association with GT. For the holistic development of students of BCom program, we also give training for life skill competencies such as Gardening, Cooking,Home Interiors, Health & physical Fitness classes to equip the students to properly manage their personal and professional life.
