Marian College Kuttikkanam is accredited
with 'A' Grade
National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), under the UGC, has bestowed 'A' grade on Marian College Kuttikkanam. This is the highest grade under the new grading system. The NAAC peer team, comprising of distinguished academicians from different parts of India, visited the college for re-accreditation on 21, 22 and 23 Mach 2009. They made a comprehensive assessment of the college and had discussions with the management, teaching and administrative staff, students, alumni, parents and other stakeholders. The present grading process is more objective and evidence based, and is very elaborate, covering all aspects of the functioning of a higher education institution. As part of the re-accreditation process, the team examined seven criteria, including curricular aspects, teaching-learning and evaluation processes, research and extension, social commitment, governance and leadership, infrastructure and learning resources, student support systems and innovative practices. Taking into consideration the excellence displayed by the college in all these domains, the peer team recommended to the accreditation council the highest grade for the college. Marian is the youngest college to attain this prestigious honour. Marian College Kuttikkanam was founded in the year 1995 and is managed by the Catholic Diocese of Kanjirapply, under the Patronage of His Excellency Mar Mathew Arackal. The college is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. It is located at Kuttikkanam, in the high-ranges of Idukki district, in the state of Kerala. Kuttikkanam is blessed with a cool and pleasant climate, conducive for learning, with the temperature ranging between 15 and 24 degree Celsius. Presently, the college offers three undergraduate programs- BBA, BCA and B.Com- and four post graduate programs-M.Com-PGDIM, MSW, MCA and MMH. The School of Social Work at Marian also offers Ph D program. The college has an envious placement record. The students are made highly skilled and employable through additional training programs and international certifications. Over the years, most of the top IT companies, including Infosys and Wipro have conducted recruitment drives at Marian. Marian College also offers various programs of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) under the Convergence Scheme. Marian Community College (MCC) is a novel venture, which highlights the social commitment of the Institution. It gives opportunities for the less-privileged to pursue job oriented technical courses, and secure Associate degrees from IGNOU. The assessment team specially lauded the efforts of the college to set international standards in professional education through its academic collaborations with reputed international universities and institutions. The team observed that the collaborations with the renowned International Universities such as University of Utah, University of Texas at Arlington, University of New Orleans, Rust College University, USA and Mid Sweden University, Sweden have brought qualitative changes in the student-centered learning process promoted by the College. The team also highlighted certain other aspects of the college, like, teachers’ excellence, cordial and smooth student- teacher relationship, large and well stacked library, modern computer lab, high-tech language lab, well equipped health club and well managed hostels and cafeteria. The NAAC team specially appreciated the innovative practices such as social and academic audits, best class evaluation, automated feedback system, annual academic retreat etc. The preparations for the accreditation process were led by Rev.
